Preventing biofilm and bacteria growth in dental surgical tubing.

ECOsmarte’s natural oxygen and copper ion system has successfully prevented biofilm and bacterial formation in dental operating tubes since 2006.

“The ECOsmarte system can be configured with all forms of conventional water treatment at the inlet, with or without conventional water softeners, and regardless of whether the source water is chlorinated city water or a conventional well water.”

Both of ECOsmarte’s Minneapolis-based dental offices have calcium levels of approximately 400 ppm, iron levels of 3 ppm, and utilize 2-block GAC filters with one-inch valves. One location uses a 48,000-particle softener (Brite Smiles), and the other uses ECOsmarte electronic equipment to control calcium bicarbonate levels (Steiner Dental).

“The potential of hazardous biofilm bacteria has been recognized by federal regulatory agencies, including OSHA, and is regularly documented in periodic trade journals.”

“ECOsmarte provides the Millipore bacterial test kit along with the simple five-drop Lamotte EC test kit, with the test being given to staff to sterilize instruments. The concept is very simple. We simply pretend that the dental office is an Apollo Lunar Module, like when NASA used ionization in three-week missions to the moon.” They use ionization because it is more effective against single-celled bacteria than chlorine, has safe and stable residue for humans, and is the best technology for combating lunar bacteria.

The ECOsmarte dental system treats all of the facility’s water at the 1500 gallons available daily, requiring an annual test kit purchase at $75 and semi-annual anode cleaning supplied by a local dealer for approximately $156.

When properly installed, the ECOsmarte electronic device prevents the formation of bacteria in the inlet filters and allows for a three-year filter lifespan at an installation cost of approximately $1000.

Each year, the ECOsmarte filtration system can easily process 250,000 gallons for $500. At one-fifth of a cent per gallon (0.002), this is a small price to pay for the safety of customers and employees.
